I am a young mother of 2. I have a 3 month old son who I am breastfeeding. Is anyone else nursing thier baby? It's nice to have a support group for this. I have 1 other friend who is nursing her son but she lives in NC and we don't talk too much.

Re: breastfeeding
Sun, March 5, 2006 - 5:25 AMI'm breastfeeding my son, or I should say I was. He is 6 months old now and I was going to continue till he was alteast one but I'm not producing enough anymore so he only gets breastmilk in the morning and at bedtime. Otherwise he gets formula and now hes on food. I had troubles to begin with because he was very gassy and coliky, and then I found out he was lactose intolerante, which ment I was too for his sake. But my mother in law kept trying to get me to change to formula, this was when he was only month old. I just couldn't switch, I loved breastfeeding him and the bond that we had because of it. I kinda miss that now since I only feed him twice a day now with it. But keep it up as long as you can, its great, I love it. -

Re: breastfeeding
Fri, March 31, 2006 - 9:03 AMSome breast-milk is better than none! If your son was lactose intolerant what kinds of formula are you giving him? I have another question...what made you think that you were not producing enough milk? The more your baby nurses, the more milk you will produce. It's call supply-demand. If your baby is demanding you feed him more, and if you feed him on demand, your milk supply will become more abundant. I too was giving my son bottles of formula and breastfeeding but then my milk supply starting going away and I was not ready to stop so I started exclusively breastfeeding him. It took almost a week for my supply to get up to his needs but I did it and I am really glad that I did. Now the only time that he gets formula is if someone else is caring for him. (which isn't very often since he is only 3 1/2 months)

Re: breastfeeding
Fri, March 31, 2006 - 10:07 AMyour own dairy consumption can affect they baby when they are breast feeding. have you tried to cut out the dairy and see if that made a difference with the baby's gas/colic issues. i didn't breast feed because the nurses gave my son a bottle right away so ended up not wanting to have anything to do with me....anyways, he was gassy too, then i switched to a soy formula and that made a big difference.

Re: breastfeeding
Wed, January 10, 2007 - 7:28 PMI breastfeed my 4 month old daughter, and think it's the only way to go! I had to wean my son when he was 5 months due to a long, unexpected hospital stay, and was heartbroken when I couldn't get him to pick it up again. I do not have any friends that breastfeed, but would love hearing from other b-feeding moms!

Re: breastfeeding
Sun, June 17, 2007 - 6:01 AMThere is nothing better than breastfeeding, and good on you to all you lovely ladies that have stuck with it, despite difficult odds. Also, a mention to the equally lovely ladies that gave it a go and didn't continue for various reasons - at least you gave it a go... i think EDUCATION is the biggest issue when it comes to bf, such as the 'supply = demand' notion... too many people assume that they're loosing their milk and can't get it back! I am told that even women who haven't been pregnant before can lactate if there is enough stimulation! This is particularly useful in adoption cases.
Anyways, there is a lot to learn about it and hopefully the more that b/f is talked about the more people will realise that it is easier than formula and much much much more nutricious!
Enjoy the time of closeness with your bubs while you can! :)
